Bitch O' Beithir

A snarky pack of elemental dragons for my Scottish friend, The Robynne.

Dragon quote

It all started with some very scary Scottish folktales - things that go 'bump' in the night.

‘Beithir’ are a sort of Scottish water dragons, akin to the Loch Ness monster, nixies and other fell beasts. You do not want to run across these in the dark, unless you happen to have a dragon master with you.

Robynne is a writer, lover of old folk tales, and very much into elemental magic. A connection to old druidic ancestry with some contemporary twists. She also loves dragons. The drawing was inspired by an old Celtic woodcarving of dragons tangled up in knotwork—tails and wings and heads all disappearing and reappearing magically. She told me that the five elements are an essential part of the Druidic tradition, and that’s who showed up.

Each dragon represents an element and has a personality that reflects it. Gnarly to the bone. And I suspect that the entire bitch is protecting an impressive book hoard somewhere in whatever dimension they travel back and forth to when they are not disposing of rude, inconsiderate humans who never return borrowed books. They apparently have no qualms about snacking on stupid.  As the sign above my home office says, “Meddle not in the affairs of dragons. For you are crunchy and tasty with ketchup.”
