A few years back, I had a personal coach to help me get through a really rough patch in my life. She taught me that self-care needs to come first, although it is counterintuitive. Without having healthy boundaries and self-esteem, we are only putting ourselves in danger of emotional and mental burnout and opening ourselves to chronic health issues. It’s like being in a lifeboat—you need to wear a functioning life preserver before you can help anyone else!
Healthy green self-care includes mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Start by looking at yourself where you are right now, not who you wish you were. Being honest with ourselves is a challenging but necessary step to growing. Are you appreciating your life here and now, focused on past hurts and mistakes, or yearning for something in the future? Or do you wear a mask to hide your authentic self from others?
Maybe it’s time to learn to trust your inner knowing and wisdom, explore and embrace your gifts, establish your passion, and utilize them for the collective good. Cheesy as the Disney Princess and Hero pantheon is, I love how they learn to rise above difficult life circumstances and self-imposed limitations to shine as authentic human beings. Bring it on, Merida and Mulan! And Sleeping Beauty, quit waiting around for your Prince Charming. Take a few tips from Rapunzel, Aladdin, and Fiona, and get moving!

I love Gretchen Rubin’s one-minute rule for recycling; it works great. I use it to check off tasks quickly, like rinsing pet food tins and putting them in the recycling bin right after my pets finish their dinner. Plastic bags go in the plastic recycling bin, and glass goes in the designated box. Boom! Healthy habits on autopilot are fantastic.

For me, expanding eco-friendly self-care from being my top priority to include my home, family, neighborhood, community, and the world is important. I practice what I humorously call my “Zorro Circle,” which is based on the training principle from the movie “The Mask of Zorro.”
In his thought-provoking book The Happiness Advantage, Shawn Achor draws inspiration from The Mask of Zorro to illustrate a brilliant technique to regain control: the Zorro Circle. Zorro’s mentor teaches him how to start with a small circle that he can master and defend and then slowly expand the circle as he gains experience, skills, and confidence. The "Zorro Circle" technique is very practical and effective and works well on anything that life throws at me. There are lots of tutorials on how to implement this technique. I encourage you to experiment and figure out what approach works best for you.

These products nourish your body while reducing the risk of allergic reactions and other adverse effects associated with synthetic chemicals.
- Organic Skincare: Look for skincare products made with natural ingredients, avoiding harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances. Brands that prioritize transparency in their ingredient lists are generally more trustworthy.
