O'Keefe coyote skull sketch

O’Keeffe Series

Georgia O’Keeffe-inspired artwork, aka portable pencil drawings.

I needed a portable artwork project that I could squish into a backpack and take with me to coffee meet-ups with other local artists (AKA the Puyallup Art and Coffee Meetup Group that met at Fika, an amazing coffee shop in Puyallup, WA, on Sunday mornings.)

It had been a while since I stretched my colored pencil muscles, so I thought I would set up some still life shots in my home studio. Georgia O’Keeffe immediately came to mind, so I collected some favorite flowers and rummaged through my odd little collection of bones and skulls. In all, I had a very entertaining Artist Date that only cost me a bouquet of flowers from one of my local farmer’s markets—a favorite Artist Date destination.

Over the course of several meet-ups and drinking lots of Fika’s fabulous coffee, the first piece is now complete, with others to follow as the mood or travel strikes my fancy.
